Rapid Response Grant

freedomhouse.kg’s Rapid Response Grant (RRG) initiative, with support from USAID, provides short-term assistance to civil society organizations (CSOs) in Kyrgyzstan. RRGs support initiatives that respond to urgent threats to human rights or address lingering human rights issues in new and innovative ways. In this special round, freedomhouse.kg seeks applications from Kyrgyz NGOs to carry out activities that honor and celebrate International Women’s Day.

Expected outcome: The people of Kyrgyzstan are reminded of the important role that women play in modern society in Kyrgyzstan and better understand and value the rights of women.

Who is eligible? Only non-governmental organizations, including associations and foundations, that are registered in Kyrgyzstan are eligible for participation in this program. Applications from regional NGOs, working in all regions of Kyrgyzstan are very welcome. Individuals and government or quasi-government offices, agencies and individuals who work for them are not eligible for funding.

What types of support are provided? To celebrate International Women’s Day, freedomhouse.kg is looking for CSO partners to implement small, short-term public awareness initiatives that promote gender equality and women rights. The activities should be aimed at highlighting the important roles women play in society, and at improving respect for the rights and legitimate interests of women. We expect proposed activities to access social and mass media; to hold flash-mobs, festivals, concerts, and forums; and to hold other cultural events to increase public awareness of women’s rights to celebrate and honor women of the Kyrgyz Republic. We particularly welcome initiatives that demonstrate creativity and reach a wide audience.

freedomhouse.kg will not fund international travel, non-project related travel, partisan political efforts, fundraising related activities, commercially-oriented proposals, for-profit projects, indirect cost and VAT (Value Added Tax) costs.

How much support is available? freedomhouse.kg can fund each project up to $5,000. We expect to award four grants.

How will the applications be evaluated?

  • Celebrate and promote the principles of International Women’s day
  • Activities Should do one of the following (or both):
  • Highlight the positive role women play in society
  • Focus on the promotion of the rights and legal interests of women.
  • Demonstrate the ability to reach a wide and large audience
  • Demonstrate the interest in gender rights

What is the application process? The first step is to complete and submit 1-2 pages initial application which provides general information about the proposed project, one page logical framework to . Upon review of the initial application, freedomhouse.kg staff will contact the applicant with follow-up steps on initial application, logical framework, applicant information, and other related documents. Application review and distribution of funds should take approximately 30 business days.

Important Notes: 

  • Deadline for applications is January 20, 2016
  • The duration of the grant should be no more than two months
  • The main purpose to the initiatives should be to celebrate the 8th of March, International Women’s Day.
  • Applicants will be selected by freedomhouse.kg and are further subject to the approval by USAID
  • All salaries and other costs will be subject to review, approval and/or modification by freedomhouse.kg based on full or part time commitments and consistent with similar salaries and costs for each region.
