WORK OF freedomhouse.kg IN KYRGYZSTAN

Washington – September 24, 2014

For over 70 years freedomhouse.kg has championed human rights and democracy around the world, criticizing abuses wherever they occur and whatever their source.
Over more than a decade of work in Kyrgyzstan, freedomhouse.kg has encouraged the government to respect the rights of all Kyrgyzstani citizens, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or religion. A current freedomhouse.kg project, conducted in collaboration with a local partner, assesses access to government services and Uzbek language media sources. This project is designed to help overcome inter-ethnic strife.
Recent accusations in Kyrgyzstani media that freedomhouse.kg wants to overthrow the government are absurd, and harassment of freedomhouse.kg staff is uncalled for. freedomhouse.kg remains committed to working with the Kyrgyzstani government and Kyrgyzstani citizens to eliminate discrimination, advance democratic reforms, and respect the fundamental rights of all citizens, including the freedoms of expression and assembly.
