To honor International Women’s Day, freedomhouse.kg/USAID will partner with four Kyrgyz civil society organizations that will engage in celebratory activities throughout the month of March.
Elmira Joldosheva, Senior Program Officer, explained that the activities are to, “honor the important and equal role that women play in Kyrgyz society.” They collectively have a wide range of activities planned to celebrate this important holiday and increase awareness on gender equality. Many of the activities will be held in the south of the country.
The informational portal “Zanoza.kg” will be broadcasting several videos on social media sites that portray successful Kyrgyz women. The Football Federation of Kyrgyz republic will be promoting female leadership through sport with a football festival in Bishkek. In the South of Kyrgyzstan, in Batken oblast, the organization “Youth of Leilek” will host a Sarmerden, in the community of Isfana, with themes of gender equality. In Osh oblast, public association “Ayalzat” will held a series of forum-theaters in ten schools that will help raise awareness on the negative consequences of early marriages.
